On April 16, Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Advisor to the Consultative Committee on Guangdong-Hong Kong Co-operation (Guangzhou Nansha), led a delegation of members and experts from the Consultative Committee to inspect the Nansha District of Guangzhou.
During the visit to Nansha, the delegation made its first stop at the Qingsheng Integrated Development project by Sun Hung Kai Properties. This project is specifically designed as a transit-oriented development (TOD).
The project is located adjacent to the operational Qingsheng Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway, which is approximately 13 minutes from Guangzhou South Railway Station and about 30 minutes from Shenzhen. Within 40 minutes, it directly reaches the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, connecting to the International Commerce Centre (ICC), an important landmark developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties in Hong Kong.
The project is also adjacent to the Qingsheng Station of Guangzhou Metro Line 4, where Line 22 and Line 33 are also planned to introduce stations. In addition, the planned Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Zhuhai-Macao High-Speed Railway will connect the three major new economic zones, namely Nansha of Guangzhou, Cuiheng of Zhongshan and Hengqin of Zhuhai.
The convergence of the "five lines" will provide tangible infrastructure to support the creation of a "30-minute transportation circle" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
"One of the major characteristics of Nansha is that it has relatively large industrial and land space, which allows for all-round cooperation with Hong Kong." Fang Zhou, research director of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute, sees great potential in Nansha's development.
Following that, Leung and the delegation visited the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, where rockets manufactured there have set a new domestic record for launching multiple satellites with a single rocket. They then proceeded to Greater Bay Technology, a company that has achieved the goal of "making charging as fast as refueling" for electric vehicles.
"With such excellent products, how can we not take them to the international market?" Leung expressed his thoughts after visiting the two companies.
Leung mentioned that Hong Kong's tertiary industry is highly developed, while Nansha has advantages in manufacturing. "For Nansha's good products, Hong Kong's role is not to provide a market, but to channel the products to the international market through Hong Kong and to fetch a competitive price. This is the 'last mile' proposition of high-quality development," Leung said.
It is evident that expanding cooperation in the industrial sector has become a consensus between Nansha and Hong Kong.
The focus of Leung's visit on high-tech enterprises also sends a signal for future enhanced cooperation between Hong Kong and Nansha in technological innovation.
